Before we start..

The best time for viewing autumn leaves in Arashiyama begins in mid-November. In autumn, the entire Arashiyama area is beautifully colored with autumn leaves.
The autumn foliage of Arashiyama is an iconic symbol of the Japanese fall season. Be sure to check for the latest information on the peak viewing period, as it varies each year.


09:00 Kimono Rental at KYOLAN

The stunning views of Arashiyama pair perfectly with wearing a kimono. KYOLAN is open from 9:00 AM in November and December. For rental reservations, please click here.


10:00 Ready to go

Hair set? Check. Kimono? Check. Take a selfie first! Then enjoy exploring Arashiyama in your kimono.


10:05 View the Autumn Leaves from Togetsukyo Bridge

This iconic bridge is the perfect spot to enjoy the vibrant autumn leaves and scenic mountain views. It’s just a 30-second walk from the Kyo-Arashi Togetsukyo Bridge store.


10:30 Stroll Along the Katsura Riverbank

Take a leisurely walk while enjoying the view of beautiful Arashiyama and the Katsura River.


11:00 Yakatabune (Houseboat) or Rowboat Experience

Near Togetsukyo Bridge, there are boarding spots for boat rides. You can experience a houseboat ride or row your own boat. The river offers a peaceful setting, making it ideal for relaxing and enjoying the autumn scenery.


12:00 Lunchtime

After getting off the boat, walk 3-4 minutes to find Arashiyama Yoshimura, a soba restaurant. If you’re lucky, you might get a special seat with a view of the Katsura River. Another great option is Shin-Togetsu, which is also very delicious.


13:00 Admire the Shishiku Garden and Autumn Leaves at Hogonin Temple

The Shishiku Garden at Hogonin Temple is a beautiful spot where autumn leaves vividly color the garden. The stone arrangements and moss are enhanced by the natural light of the day.


14:00 Admire the Sogen Pond Garden at Tenryuji Temple

Enjoy the beautiful autumn-colored landscape of the Sogen Pond Garden, a strolling garden at the World Heritage-listed Tenryuji Temple.


15:00 Relax in the Bamboo Grove Path

Exit from the north gate of Tenryuji, and the bamboo grove path will be right in front of you. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and the lush green scenery of this popular relaxation spot.


15:30 Pray for Love Fulfillment at Nonomiya Shrine

Nonomiya Shrine is known for love fulfillment and good relationship prayers. Trying out the water fortune slips can also be a fun experience. Prayers for academic success and safe childbirth are also popular.


16:00 Dessert Break

Enjoy delicious treats like cotton candy, matcha ice cream, stuffed taiyaki, and pancakes.


17:00 Souvenir Shopping

There are many souvenir shops near KYOLAN. Recommended items include Kyo Baum and Miffy bread. Local sake and traditional fans are also popular.


17:30 Kimono Return (KYOLAN)

End your fun day by returning your kimono in preparation for your next plans.

18:20 Sagano Romantic Train Autumn Light-Up “Train of Light Fantasy”

From Torokko Arashiyama Station to Torokko Kameoka Station, enjoy the illuminated autumn leaves and the scenic Hozugawa Gorge with lights and decorations. The last train from Sagano Station departs at 6:26 PM (times vary, so check the official website for details).

Light-Up Period: Saturday, October 12 to Sunday, December 29, 2024.
